Wooly Worm Derby and Silent Auction Raise More Than $19,000 for Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare’s Amish Care Fund

Chaplain Ginger Pflueger represented Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare at the Charm Days Wooly Worm Derby, a race to see whose worm can crawl up a string the fastest. While she did not win, the event was fun for all.

Charm Days is a two-day annual event held in Charm, Ohio, during the second week of October that celebrates and promotes the businesses and merchants of Charm. The festive atmosphere included benefit lunches and live bands.

During the event, more than $19,000 was raised through the Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare Charm Days Silent Auction event, benefiting the Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare Amish Care Fund. More than 200 items, from a box of noodles to an Amish buggy were donated from area businesses and community members.

“Thank you to the Charm Merchant Association, the community and volunteers for their overwhelming support during Charm Days 2019,” said Kurt Holmes, executive director of Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare. “Because of their support, we are able to continue providing superior care and superior services to patients and their families in the Amish community.”

The Amish Care Fund enables Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare to provide superior care and superior services to anyone in the Amish community facing end-of-life illnesses, regardless of their ability to pay; grief support to anyone in the Amish community at no cost; and complementary services such as massage and music therapies.

Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare,a not-for-profit organization established in 1982, is an affiliate of Ohio’s Hospice that serves communities in Wayne, Holmes, Ashland and Medina counties. It embodies the spirit of neighbors caring for neighbors with a commitment to relieve suffering, ease fears and provide companionship along life’s last journey. Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare addresses patient and family needs wherever the patient calls home.
